Counterpoint

The CDs are lined up
like books on the shelf,
sorted by musical genre.
Beneath the desk is
a basket of rumpled
laundry.
At least it’s today’s.

The bed is actually made
for a change.
On the chair are
towels that need mending.
They’ve sat there two weeks
so far.

A robe hangs neatly
on a hook,
unlike the sweatshirt
draped across the back
of the towels’ chair.

The sporadic orderliness
is tremendous progress.
